Leaving Eternal Marks
Sometimes it seems like the idea of “college years” carries with it a sense of frivolity and waste that’s wrapped up in parties, pranks, games, hazing, and more. There are some students in Oklahoma who are defying those stereotypes and using their spare time to make a difference… for eternity!
Earlier this school year, a presentation was made to a class at Oklahoma Christian University. In that class, our Founder mentioned the reality that due to funding cuts we were not going to be able to produce specially marked Bibles for all of our boys and girls.
While this was a reality of some of the funding cuts, it was also a disappointment because of the lost opportunity to put the most effective and engaging tools into the hands of our boys and girls. We didn’t realize how God would use a casual comment to prompt great action.
Under the leadership of their college professor, Dudley Chancey, more than 60 young adults from Oklahoma Christian University, including members of 5 social clubs, contributed over 160 hours marking Bibles for each and every child enrolled in a Novo program.
These dedicated young adults gave their time and skills to create something that will change lives.
Isaiah 55:11 “So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”
While they didn’t get to see the smiles on the children’s faces or receive a hug of gratitude in person for their efforts, these images capture just a fraction of the joy and excitement felt as leaders gave children Bibles and explained how to use them.
In addition to college students who have volunteered behind-the-scenes, we have many other college students serving on a weekly basis within Novo programs.
The gift of time that each one of these college students has given and is continually willing to give to the boys and girls of our city is truly priceless. We couldn’t be more grateful, or more proud!
We are pleased to publicly recognize the following schools who have students who have served within Novo:
Mid-America Christian University, Oklahoma University, Oklahoma Christian University, Oklahoma State University, OU Health Sciences Center College of Nursing, Randall University, and Southern Nazarene University.
Yui Takahashi, from Japan, was just one of the amazing young people who spent time creating the special Bibles for Novo boys and girls. This month, Yui started a semester-long internship with us doing behind-the-scenes work at our office and serving at 2 program sites. Pray for Yui and the other college students who join with us and say “things will be different for the children who need us most!”
Thank YOU for what you do to make this kind of life-change possible!
